Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall was the first is Orange County to receive New York State Stroke Center designation. With stroke, time lost is brain lost. With a specialized stroke team ready to quickly intervene and a CT scanner right in our Emergency Department, MSLC offers the diagnostics and treatment necessary to minimize the potentially devastating effects of stroke.
Know the warning signs of stroke and call 911:
- Severe headache with no known cause.
- Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes.
- Sudden numbness or weakness in the face, arm, or leg.
- Sudden confusion or trouble speaking or understanding.
- Sudden trouble walking, or loss of balance or coordination.
The American Heart Association and American Stroke Association recognize this hospital for achieving 85% or higher adherence to all Get With The Guidelines® Stroke Performance Achievement indicators for consecutive 12 month intervals and 75% or higher compliance with 6 of 10 Get With The Guidelines® Stroke Quality Measures to improve quality of patient care and outcomes.
American Stroke Association Recognition
MSLC recently received a 10th award from the American Stroke Association, for achieving quality milestones for the Get With the Guidelines - Gold Plus Performance Achievement Award. (The ASA is a division of the American Heart Association.) The goal of the program is to improve the overall quality of care for stroke patients by improving acute stroke treatment and preventing future strokes and other cardiovascular events. As part of MSLC’s Stroke Program, the hospital has implemented national treatment guidelines which include the provision of timely assessment of patients presenting with stroke so that clot-busting medications can be used in patients meeting the criteria.
