Newburgh, NY –St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital (SLCH)’s community event calendar is filling up quickly for the month of October. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Janelle Carr, Infusion Suite Nurse Practitioner, will be conducting a lecture at Orange-Ulster BOCES on October 3 at 3 p.m. We will continue raising awareness by sponsoring the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Walk at The Woodbury Commons Premium Outlet on October 15. The SLCH Diabetes Management program is offering many opportunities throughout the month. Our certified diabetes educators will be available at the Cornwall campus for office hours from 1-5 p.m., on Tuesday, October 3 and October 10. Office hours at the Newburgh campus are set for 7-10 a.m., on Thursday, October 5 and 3-6 p.m., on Thursday, October 19. Office hour visits are by appointment only. This month’s support group will be led by Yoga instructor, Tina Robie, on Tuesday, October 10 from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at the Cornwall campus. In addition, there are three opportunities to enroll in the SLCH Diabetes Lifestyle Lessons Self-Management program. An eight-hour, one-day option is available on Sunday, October 22 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Part I of the program will be held Saturday, October 21 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., with Part II following on Saturday, October 28 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. To enroll in the program, please call (845) 458-4000. Dr. Jaspreet Singh, Co-Chair of Urology services at SLCH, will be discussing laser treatment for enlarged prostate on Wednesday, October 4th at 6 p.m. The lecture will be held on the Newburgh campus in the Drake Conference Room. Dr. Singh will give a free seminar about the variety of treatment methods for enlarged prostate, including minimally invasive laser therapy. Seating is limited! Dr. Yu-Kuan Lin, an SLCH Urologist, will continue the discussion of urological services on Monday, October 16 at 6:30 p.m., at the Homewood Suites located at Stewart Airport. Dr. Brian Reade will be putting his best foot forward at Beacon’s Howland Public Library on Thursday, October 5. In celebration of SLCH Trauma Awareness Week, the hospital’s trauma team will be out and about to provide community education. On Monday October 9, SLCH will provide Stop the Bleed Training to the community at 10 a.m., in 1st Floor Conference Room of the Newburgh campus and again at 6 p.m., at the Littman Cancer Center Radiation Oncology Suite on the Cornwall campus. The trauma team will be back in Cornwall again on Wednesday, October 11 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., to provide car seat inspections with the help of the Orange County Safety Board and Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee. Later that day, Dr. Thomas Robb, Medical Director of Emergency Services, will provide a lecture to discuss the techniques and strategies for keeping you on your feet and out of the hospital. The events continue at the Cornwall Public Library with a panel discussion concerning the Opioid Crisis that is affecting our community. The panel will include Kathy Sheehan, Director of Emergency and Trauma Services, Chief Todd Hazard from the Town of Cornwall Police Department, SLCH Case Management team members, participants from Independent Living, as well as other community members. SLCH will be participating in the fall festivities during the month of October in Beacon and Highland Falls. On Sunday, October 15, our team will be present at the Beacon Pumpkin Festival. Located at the Beacon Riverfront Park, the annual event runs from noon to 5 p.m. The Annual Highland Falls Fall Foliage Festival will take place on Main Street from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., on Saturday, October 28th. The event will feature a variety of vendors including food, music, craft and shops. 

Put the spring back in your step by attending one of the Orthopedic education lectures during the month of October. To start off the series, Dr. Evan Hawkins will give a talk at the Crystal Run Healthcare facility in Newburgh on Wednesday, October 11 at 6:30 p.m. Dr. Hawkins will be discussing the treatment of arthritis and anterior hip replacement. Dr. William Cieplinski will continue this year’s Littman Cancer Center Educational series with a cancer prevention seminar on Wednesday, October 25 in the Radiation Oncology conference room at the Cornwall campus. In honor of who have passed at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital while under the care of our palliative care team, we will be hosting a celebration of life on Saturday, October 21 starting at 11 a.m. in Larkin Plaza, located on Dubois Street, adjacent to the SLCH parking garage. To wrap up an eventful month, SLCH will join the Chamber of Commerce, and many community organizations, at the Annual Business to Consumer Expo. The expo will take place at the Galleria at Crystal Run on Saturday, October 28 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
