SLCH Cornwall Emergency Services to Close on January 12

Hospital
CORNWALL, NY:  Administrative and transportation plans are in place to secure a smooth transition during the closure of the St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital (SLCH) Emergency Department, which was announced last month.  The final day of operation will be January 12, 2017, after which time all emergency services will be consolidated to the hospital’s Newburgh campus.

All local and county EMS have been notified to cease ambulance services to the Cornwall campus beginning at 12:01 a.m., on January 12. SLCH’s Newburgh Emergency Department is located five miles away at 70 Dubois Street in Newburgh, New York and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week with valet parking from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. An ambulance will be stationed outside of the Cornwall ED for seven days following the closure.

SLCH staff is reminding all community members in need of emergency medical care, to please utilize the hospital’s Newburgh Emergency Department, or an alternative location beginning on January 12.

In addition SLCH has arranged for Mobile Life Support Services to transport any patients remaining, or those arriving shortly before or any time after 7 a.m. when the ED closes, to St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital’s Newburgh campus. SLCH ED staff will be on site at 6 a.m. to facilitate any transfers necessary to the Newburgh ED.

To reach SLCH’s Newburgh campus, please call 845-568-2305 for the Emergency Department or 845-561-4400 for the main number. Directions to the Newburgh campus will be made available to all patients presenting to the Cornwall campus for emergency care.

In preparation for this closure, SLCH has also expanded emergency services at the hospital’s Newburgh campus. These measures include increasing the ED’s fast track hours, which allows for triage of less emergent cases. This service will now be open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Additionally, valet parking has been added for Emergency Department patients and visitors between the hours of 5 p.m. and 7 a.m.
