SLCH Orthopedics Staff To Provide Free Community Education

Newburgh, NY – As part of its ongoing community outreach program, the St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital Orthopedics Department will participate in two free education events during the month of July. Both programs will focus on dealing with arthritis and total joint replacement.

Dr. John McLaughlin, Medical Director of the SLCH Center for Joint Replacement, will hold a discussion on arthritis of the knee, hip and shoulder on Thursday, July 14 at the Homewood Suites – Stewart Airport. The lecture begins at 6:30 p.m. Dr. McLaughlin will discuss the diagnosis and treatment of arthritis, including dietary supplements, medications, exercise, injections and surgery. Dr. Kenneth Rauschenbach, the Director of the SLCH Orthopedics Institute, will be the featured speaker at Glen Arden Continuing Care Retirement Community’s “Dinner with the Doctor: All About Joint Replacement” program on Monday, July 25. In addition to the presentation, a free buffet dinner will be provided beginning at 6 p.m. Dr. Rauschenbach will focus on the treatment of arthritis in the hip and knee, including total joint replacement. Dr. McLaughlin specializes in the treatment of arthritis of the knee, hip and shoulder (including total joint replacement), sports medicine (including arthroscopy and ligament reconstruction) and fracture management. His practice philosophy is to maximize non-surgical treatment prior to considering surgery. When surgery is necessary, minimally invasive techniques are preferred.  He has worked in the Hudson Valley for more than 15 years and is a partner at Orthopedic Associates of Dutchess County.
A graduate of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Dr. McLaughlin completed his orthopedic residency at Long Island Jewish Medical Center.  He completed a total joint/sports medicine fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.

Raushcenbach Glen Arden Dinner June 2016Dr. McLaughlin is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons (ABOS), a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) and a member of the American Association of Knee and Hip Surgeons. He is the author and co-author of several articles in peer-reviewed orthopedic journals, including the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery and the Journal of Shoulder Surgery.
Dr. McLaughlin is active in the community, and has served as the team physician for the Cornwall High School Green Dragons. He was also the team physician for the Hudson Valley Fort of the Fall Experimental Football League (FXFL).

Dr. Rauschenbach is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with expertise in sports medicine, hip and knee replacement and trauma. A past chairman of the hospital’s Orthopedic Surgery Department, Dr. Rauschenbach is a partner at Orthopedic Associates of Dutchess County. He also serves as Director of the Orthopedics Institute at SLCH.

Dr. Rauschenbach received his medical education at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine before completing his residency in orthopedic surgery at Chicago Osteopathic Medical Center.  He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons as well as the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics. He has published in numerous peer review journals.  

Dr. Rauschenbach is an active member of the community, serving as the team physician for local sports teams in the Newburgh and Marlboro school districts, and the New York State Boxing Commission. He has conducted numerous community education presentations on arthritis and joint replacement, particularly the anterior approach to total hip replacement. He is one of the few surgeons in the Hudson Valley region performing this procedure, which can help speed up the post-surgery recovery time.
