Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Names Rebecca Welsh, RN, BSN as its 2026 Nurse of the Year
Newburgh/Cornwall, NY — Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall (MSLC) is proud to announce Rebecca Welsh, RN, BSN, as its 2026 Nurse of the Year.
Inspired by a family legacy of caregiving, Rebecca chose nursing as a calling. She has distinguished herself as an exceptional clinician and a compassionate presence. Beginning her career on 3 North, one of MSLC’s medical-surgical units, Rebecca has earned the admiration of colleagues, patients, and families alike for her unwavering commitment to excellence in care.
Rebecca consistently goes above and beyond to ensure every patient feels seen, heard, and supported. She has a remarkable ability to connect with others, using humor, empathy, and authenticity to bring comfort during some of life’s most vulnerable moments. Her adaptability and emotional intelligence allow her to tailor care to each individual, elevating both the patient's experience and clinical outcomes.
Rebecca plays an integral role in fostering the strong culture of 3 North. She actively supports her colleagues, shares her knowledge, and contributes to an environment grounded in respect, compassion, and teamwork. Nominated and selected by her peers, Rebecca exemplifies what it means to exceed expectations, not only in the care she delivers, but in the way she uplifts those around her.

The Nurse of the Year award is determined through an open nomination process among MSLC nursing professionals. This year’s finalists included Nicole Bracken, RN, BSN, and Todd Hulbert, RN, alongside Rebecca.
Rebecca was honored at MSLC’s annual Nurses Night Out celebration, held at Hurricane Grill & Wings. The event was made possible through the generous support of community partners, including Presenting Sponsor Pepsi-Cola of the Hudson Valley. And a special thank you to the Kaplan Family, whose continued support of MSLC nurses is deeply appreciated.
The award was presented by Daniel Maughan, MSLC President and CEO, and Margaret Allers, SVP of Patient Care Services/CNO/COO.
