Newburgh, NY – The St. Luke’s Cornwall Health System Foundation is pleased to announce its 2019 Gala Honorees: Newburgh Free Academy will be receiving the Community Commitment Award, and the hospital’s very own Cardiovascular Institute will be honored with the Outstanding Caregiver Award.

Newburgh Free Academy (NFA) continues to work in partnership with Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall (MSLC), helping to expand the hospital’s community footprint even further. Under the leadership of Dr. Roberto Padilla, Superintendent of the Newburgh Enlarged City School District (NECSD) and MSLC Board of Trustees member; NECSD has helped facilitate numerous community programs and initiatives in collaboration with MSLC.

These programs include the Scholars in Scrubs program in conjunction with the Newburgh Armory Unity Center, which teaches the fundamentals of health care to young students; the P-TECH program, providing students, many of which have interned at MSLC, the opportunity to graduate with both a high school diploma and an associate’s degree; along with the Certified Nursing Assistant Program, which received formal verification by New York State earlier this year.

The Cardiovascular Institute at MSLC, led by Medical Director Dr. Anthony Patrello, and Dr. Mark Greenberg with Clinical oversight of the Cardiac Catheterization Lab is comprised of more than 35 professionals across the community specializing in cardiac care. MSLC first opened its Cardiac Catheterization Lab in 2005, and since that time, Cardiovascular Services at the hospital have undergone significant transformation and growth. Through integration with the Montefiore Health System, MSLC continues to provide high-quality care with advanced technologies and can connect patients with a national healthcare leader should patients require more acute care.

“We are incredibly proud to honor the dedication and commitment of both the Cardiovascular Institute and Newburgh Free Academy at this year’s Gala,” said Joan Cusack-McGuirk, MSLC President and CEO. “Both honorees are second-to-none and deserve to be recognized for the compassion and care they each provide to MSLC and the many members of our community every day.”

To kick-off the celebration of the 2019 Gala, several members of MSLC Board Leadership, Gala Committee Members, Hospital leadership and friends celebrated with the honorees at Blu Pointe earlier this week.

This year’s “An Evening in the Emerald City” Gala will be held on Saturday, September 7 at Anthony’s Pier 9 in New Windsor.
