Newburgh, NY – St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital (SLCH) will once again be active in the community at several August seminars and events. 

The August slate begins just after the turn of the calendar. SLCH and 2 Alices Coffee Lounge in Newburgh are teaming up to present an Eat & Greet: Learning about Lyme Disease, on Wednesday, August 2. Beginning at 12 p.m., Dr. Manita Sawhney of the St. Luke’s Cornwall Medical Group will be available to answer questions during the lunch hour. The event has already reached capacity. The hospital will continue to attend the Nancy Pullar Summer Concert Series hosted by the Town of New Windsor with health and wellness information, as well as free blood pressure screenings. The concerts take place at the Town Hall complex located at 555 Union Avenue. The final three concerts leading up to New Windsor Community Day are set for August 2, 9 and 16. The SLCH Diabetes Management program has another busy schedule of activities. The hospital’s Newburgh campus will host a support group on Wednesday, August 9 beginning at 4 p.m. Our certified diabetes educators will hold office hours at the Newburgh campus on Thursday’s from 3-6 p.m., beginning August 10. There will also be office hours at the Cornwall campus on August 1, 8 and 29 from 1-5 p.m. Office hour visits are by appointment only. In addition, there are three opportunities to enroll in the SLCH Diabetes Lifestyle Lessons Self-Management program. Part I of the program will be held Saturday, August 19 from 1-5 p.m. with Part II following on Saturday, August 26 from 1-5 p.m. An eight-hour, one-day option is also available on Wednesday, August 9 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. To enroll in the program, please call (845) 458-4000. On Sunday, August 13, SLCH will make the first of two trips across the Hudson. The hospital will be represented at the Beacon Corn Festival by staff members from the Center for Sports and Physical Therapy, located in Fishkill. The event is scheduled to run from noon until 5 p.m. at Beacon’s Riverfront Park. 

The hospital’s series of lunch and learns with the Town of Newburgh seniors wraps up Friday, August 18 with a presentation on preventing and dealing with common foot issues. 

The lecture schedule starts on August 24 when Dr. John McLaughlin, Medical Director of the SLCH Center for Total Joint Replacement, resumes his popular series of seminars outlining the diagnosis and treatment of arthritis in the hip, knee and shoulder. Once again, the Homewood Suites at Stewart Airport in New Windsor will serve as the venue. Beginning at 6:30 p.m., Dr. McLaughlin will discuss non-surgical treatments such as dietary supplements, medications, exercise and injections, along with surgical options such as the cutting-edge Muscle-Sparing Total Knee Replacement. Saturday, August 26 marks the fourth consecutive year that SLCH will support New Windsor Community Day. The day-long celebration gets underway at 10 a.m. at Kristi Babcock Memorial Park. For more information on the event, visit http://newwindsorcommunityday.com/

The docket concludes with another trip to Beacon on Thursday, August 31. Dr. Wasik Ashraf will visit the Howland Public Library for a free presentation on the diagnosis and treatment of arthritis.
