SLCH Trauma Program Receives Dyson Foundation Grant

Hospital
Newburgh, NY-St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital (SLCH) has received a $50,000 grant from the Dyson Foundation which will be used to purchase potentially life-saving equipment for its Emergency Department and Trauma Service. With the funds received from the grant, SLCH’s provisional Level III Trauma Center will be able to purchase two rapid infusers, which are used for treating patients suffering from excessive blood loss, or who require a rapid infusion of life sustaining fluids for survival.

The ThermaCor 1200 rapid infusers can be utilized during a broad range of medical procedures and in critical situations where heated fluid infusion is critical to achieve successful patient outcomes. The new machines are the only such devices on the market approved for pediatric use.

“We would like to thank the Dyson Foundation for their generosity and support of St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital,” said Joan Cusack-McGuirk, Interim President and CEO. “Investments in state-of-the-art medical devices are necessary for the ED and SLCH’s trauma team to provide safe, quality healthcare to our community.”

The Dyson Foundation was formed in 1957 and is led by Robert R. Dyson, who has served as its Chairman since 2000.  The Foundation awards grants through a diverse regional funding program in the Mid-Hudson Valley of New York State, as well as outside the Hudson Valley to pre-selected organizations.  The Dyson Foundation awarded grants totaling more than $17,800,000 in 2014, primarily focused on health, human services, and support for economically disadvantaged individuals and families.
