Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Names Donna Ramsey, RN, CEN, AD as its 2025 Nurse of the Year
Newburgh, NY – May 9, 2025 – Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall (MSLC) proudly announced Donna Ramsey, RN, CEN, AD, as its 2025 Nurse of the Year during a celebration held last evening. A veteran nurse with 35 years of experience, Donna is a respected Charge Nurse in the Emergency Department and Trauma Center, where she has long been regarded as a leader, mentor, and tireless advocate for both patients and colleagues.
Throughout her distinguished career, Donna has consistently gone above and beyond, providing compassionate care and unwavering support to those in need. Her dedication, clinical expertise, and ability to nurture the next generation of nurses make her a cornerstone of MSLC’s Emergency Department.
“As a Magnet-designated organization, MSLC and Nursing hold themselves to providing the highest level of care to all of our patients,” said Margaret Allers, Senior Vice President of Patient Care Services, Chief Operating Officer, and Chief Nursing Officer. “Donna exemplifies everything we value in a nurse: skill, compassion, and a deep commitment to patients, families, and fellow caregivers. She is truly deserving of this honor.”
The Nurse of the Year award was the result of an open nomination process among MSLC nursing professionals. Finalists for this year’s award included Maureen Merchant, RN, from the Operating Room, and Paula Mendez, RN, from the Intensive Care Unit—both with 14 years of dedicated service at MSLC.
Donna received the award at the hospital’s annual Nurses’ Night Out event, hosted at Hurricane Grill and Wings in Newburgh, NY. The evening was made possible by generous sponsorship from various organizations including Presenting Sponsor: Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Medical Staff. A special thank you to The Kaplan Family for their support.
The award presentation was led by MSLC President and CEO Daniel Maughan and SVP/CNO/COO Margaret Allers, in front of more than 150 guests.
“I am incredibly proud of Donna,” said Maughan. “Her passion for patient care and her leadership in the Emergency Department have left a lasting impression on countless lives. Having worked alongside her during my time leading the ED, I saw firsthand the impact she makes every day. Congratulations as well to Maureen and Paula—and to our entire nursing team. They truly represent the best of the best.”
