MONTEFIORE ST. LUKE’S CORNWALL AND CORNWALL PUBLIC LIBRARY TO HOST VIRTUAL FLU EDUCATION EVENT

Events

Newburgh, NY – Join Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall and the Cornwall Public Library for a free virtual seminar on combating this year’s flu season on Thursday, November 19 at 5 p.m. Presented by Dr. Nicole Agcanas, Primary Care Physician at the Medical Group at Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall, the seminar will review guidelines for prevention and treatment of the flu and how to stay healthy this fall and winter season.

According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), in the 2017–2018 flu season, as many as 79,000 people may have died from the flu. It was the second-deadliest flu season for children since the CDC began tracking pediatric-flu deaths 14 years ago.

“Getting a flu shot this year is more important than ever not only for the adult population but for children as well,” said Dr. Agcanas. “With flu season rapidily approaching and COVID-19 still a threat in our area, we should take all necessary precautions to protect the health of ourselves and others in our community.”

Flu vaccinations can provide an array of benefits to one’s health such as reduced risk of flu-associated hospitalizations and can be an important preventative tool for people with certain health conditions such as asthma and weakened immune systems. Speak to your primary care physician about how to get a flu shot this season.
