SLCH Announces the Formation of The Cardiovascular Institute
Newburgh, NY – As part of its American Heart Month celebration, St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital (SLCH) is proud to announce the formation of the SLCH Cardiovascular Institute. The integrated program, which became effective in January, enhances the already collaborative relationship between the hospital and participating cardiologists by specifically focusing on the quality of care provided to patients.
The SLCH Cardiovascular Institute provides an avenue for the entire cardiology team to be involved in a patient's plan of care. This cohesive approach is designed to enhance the overall patient experience, while providing high quality care, with a focus on prevention. The SLCH Cardiovascular Institute will allow for new and unique clinical services, and provide community education.
"This Cardiovascular Institute will be a great benefit to the hospital, physicians and most importantly, the patients," said Dr. Mehul Patel, SLCH cardiologist and Medical Director of the Cardiovascular Institute. "This program creates a mechanism for the hospital to partner with physicians with the goals of improving patient outcomes and becoming recognized as the market leader in cardiac services."
The Cardiovascular Institute is the latest example of SLCH's quality cardiovascular patient care. The hospital was recognized as a 2013 Top Performer on Key Quality Measures by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in the United States, in the measure sets of Heart Attack, Heart Failure and Stroke. SLCH has earned the American Stroke Association's "Get With the Guidelines Gold Plus Achievement Award" for excellence in stroke care, and performs above the national benchmarks in treating heart attacks, heart failure and emergency angioplasty.
